While I believe most of us want to live our best lives, we often do things, whether we are aware of it or not, that actually prevent us from doing so.

I know because I did this for years.

I struggled with severe anxiety and was plagued with never feeling good enough. I was incredibly unhappy. Battling anxiety on a daily basis, feeling completely alone in my struggle, I did anything I could to escape the pain.

I would numb myself with food, drugs, alcohol, shopping, binge watching TV, countless hours spent on Facebook, a new diet, a new man - anything to not feel my feelings. Shocker - none of these things worked.

It was only when I stopped these toxic behaviors that I realized everything I needed, the peace and love I so desperately craved, I already had. I only needed to look within.

From that day forward, I made the decision to love and honor myself. As I embraced self-love and self-compassion, no longer punishing myself for my imperfections, the negative committee in my head started to quiet. I started doing things that I never thought I would be able to do. I had a confidence in me that I had only dreamt about.

I was no longer at war with myself.

One thing I know for sure is I could never have done this alone. We need support and guidance in order to make lasting changes in our lives especially from someone who has been there.

Change is necessary in order grow into the people we are meant to be; however, it can be very difficult in the beginning. It's often uncomfortable and it feels safer to revert back to our old ways even if our old ways weren't working for us. That is why we need someone to pick us back up when we fall down, because inevitably we will - someone to believe in us even when we don't believe in ourselves.

I believe that every challenge we overcome provides us with the unique opportunity to use what we learned to help others overcome their challenges.
